You will find yourself with no shortage of ways to celebrate cycling across the mountains, lakes and Samurai towns of Wild Japan
After saying goodbye to Tokyo and it’s endless food possibilities, cultural bounty, and 24 hour buzz, we will transport people past the maddening traffic to Nikko, a UNESCO site, where you may visit the Toshogu Shrine, or walk to the Kanmangafuchi Abyss!
We will continue cycling north, towards more and more mountains, lakes and wild settings. Our first stop will be in Aizuwakamatsu, a town famed not only for it’s Sake, but also for it’s devoted Samurai of the past. Continuing on mountain roads we will stop by Fukushima, before continuing on to Matsushima Bay for our rest day. Known as one of the 3 best views in all of Japan, we’ll enjoy sitting by the sea, tasting the local sushi and getting set for our next stretch north.
Our next stop is in Hiraizumi, once a rival to Kyoto in feudal power and wealth and another UNESCO site on our ride. Our legs will then bring us to Kakunodate, with the best examples of Samurai architecture in all Japan. From there we are into the wilderness, and have a chance to experience cycling by 2 of the most scenic lakes in Japan, Lake Tazawa and Lake Towada, before arriving to Aomori. There we will take a ferry to Hakkodate, and the sparsely populated island of Hokkaido, for the last stretch of our ride towards Sapporo.
On Hokkaido we will cycle 5 days, taking in the rugged coastal views of the northern Sea of Japan and Uchiura Bay, as well as finishing off our incredible ride with 2 nights of Onsen’s, Japanese Hot springs, in this case sulfur baths situated by Volcanic crater lakes.
Our final ride will be to the city of Sapporo, famed for it’s beer brewery, and delicious ramen, you will find yourself with no shortage of ways to celebrate cycling across the mountains, lakes and Samurai towns of Wild Japan.
