Traditional fishing villages, a dramatic rocky coastline interspersed with unspoilt sandy beaches, historic sites - this exciting ride along the southern Portuguese coastline towards the Algarve will provide an intimate look at this stunning region. Your route begins on the west coast, in the wild and rugged area of the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina National Park, before passing Cape St. Vicente, Europe's most south-western point, and heading into the true Algarve, where we only cycle the quieter trails.
The days are filled much more than just cycling including visits the Fisherman's Museum, the cape of Sagres, several fortresses and exploring the historical town of Lagos. The food will also amaze you with visits to a pastry factory, an organic farm producing jams, chutneys, cakes and chocolates and many opportunities to sample the delicious seafood which the area is renowned for. During this beautiful ride, which is lined with sea discoveries from the 15th century, there will also be opportunities to take a swim in the empty beaches well away from the busier tourist areas.
