West Africa en Vélo’s start line is at the foot of the legendary Hassan II Mosque in the world-famous city of Casablanca

After spending a few days feasting on fresh seafood from the Boulevard de la Corniche and sipping on a gin and tonics, riders will pedal inland towards the Atlas Mountains. Cycling past Berber villages and camping next to a mosque nearly 1,000 years old is a wonderful introduction to North West Africa. After significant climbing up into the High Atlas Mountains, riders are rewarded with a rest day in the historical city of Marrakesh where they can explore the nighttime Medina, a market experience unlike any other.

Turning south, the riders will begin their long journey along the Atlantic Coast, pedaling past small fishing villages, cliffs made from fossilized seashells, and detouring to natural wonders such as the Legzira Beach Arch. Moving into the disputed territory of Western Sahara, riders will experience what it is like pedaling in one of the least populated regions of the entire world. As far as the eye can see, one horizon will be in constant motion with waves crashing, birds diving, and fisherman hauling in the day’s catch. The other is the endless arid expanse of the Sahara Desert, stretching all the way across the African Continent. The final stage ends with a ride across stunning sand flats, delivering the group to Dakhla, a mecca of kitesurfing.
