Ohio BikeTrails, one of our newest tours, takes you on trails through the bike friendly, historic Ohio countryside with occasional views of its cities. We know you will fall in love with the many small towns you will ride through. We think you will come away with an image of Ohio as the hard-working, productive farming, beautiful river landscape area that it is.We start this trip outside of Cleveland and head south on the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath. Our first day of riding offers an option for bikers to choose an on and off jaunt on the scenic railroad that parallels the towpath. We end the day in Akron and van back to the trailhead there the next morning to continue south. This stretch includes a picnic lunch stop at St. Helena Heritage park where you can take an optional 1 hour canal boat ride on the St Helena III, a replica of an old freighter. We will spend the next night and bike the following morning in the Amish country of Holmes County. Well visit the Amish and Mennonite Cultural Center to learn about the people of this area. The trail here in Holmes County is a unique wide trail built with separate lanes for bikes and buggies.Next, well move west to ride the Roberts Pass and Prairie grass trails that travel through farmlands from Georgesville (outside of Columbus) to Xenia (outside of Dayton). Well spend two nights in Springfield with a morning ride along the northern leg of the Little Miami trail where you can make a coffee stop in Yellow Springs, home of Antioch college. In Springfield well visit the Frank Lloyd Wright Wescott house. The next day well ride downhill along the great Miami river on the Great Miami trail from Piqua to Franklin. Our picnic lunch stop that day is a park with a dramatic view of the Dayton skyline. Our last three days will include a ride across from Dayton to Xenia on the urban Cross Creek Trail and then south on the Little Miami trail, a scenic wooded trail. The southern part of the trail runs along the Little Miami river. This trail finishes with a peddle-easy downhill (afternoon break in the charming town of Loveland) to our final destination in Cincinnati. We will van everyone back to our starting point in Cleveland. This tour provides a wonderful trek from Cleveland in northeast Ohio to Cincinnati in southwest Ohio with all trails except the towpath paved. And while the areas around the trails are sometimes hilly, the trails are perfect for old folks on spokes.
