Some places were just made for cycling with long stretches of newly surfaced roads, a variety of jaw-dropping landscapes, and with temperatures in the 20s just when the rest of Europe is settling into Autumn. Don't go telling everyone about it just yet though, because Andalusia is still one of the continent's best-kept cycling secrets. We'll cycle over mountains and through the land that the Moors conquered and left little jewels of the Middle East scattered throughout. Andalé!
The cheap available land, southern Spain has started to become somewhat of a hub for alternative movements. We'll be staying at inspirational eco-villages, quirky Airbnbs and some boutique hotels. Kicking off in Seville we'll be heading to one of Seville's oldest bars for the kind of tapas experience that only El Rinconcillo can provide.
Whilst the daily distances will be grade 2-3 averaging around 70km a day, there will be some moderate to hard climbing, with excellent decent and views that will take your breath away. We will head North to Los Portales eco-village, a community of around 30 people living collectively, growing their own food, pressing their own olives and making cheese from their goats.
We'll then be heading south to Ronda and a cycle over its epic bridge. We'll spend the next few days weaving our way through the National Park Sierra de Grazalema, visiting the bizarrely blue 'smurf' town of Juzcar.
The roads are quiet, the scenery is stunning and the whitewashed rural villages are sublime. You're really in for a treat with this one.
