C’est Cheese

There is no better view of Europeís astonishingly compact diversity than this ride. Burgundy, the Jura, the Savoie and French Switzerland, all of which you will visit, share borders and language, and once shared government. But they differ in scenery, cuisine, social order, and just about everything else. A closely-knit trip that leaves you feeling like you crossed a continent....

The trip titleís cheese hommage is justified by Epoisse, Langres, Ami de Chambertin... Gruyère, Compté, Bleu de Gex, Fribourg, Vacherin du Mont díOr, Morbier, Reblochon, Tomme de Savoie... and a host of others, all made along our route. Served on post-dinner cheese trays, in sauces over steaks, in pots with white wine and kirsch (the famous fondue), scraped melted onto potatos with cured beef from the high Alps (raclette), with melted with crème fraiche and onions (tartiflette), and accompanied by some of Europeís most charming and diverse wines. We finish with a couple of days in German Switzerland, in the beautiful Alpine resort of Zermatt.
