Journey through Western Macedonia

Invited by Swisscontact, an organization for Swiss Entwicklungszu-cooperation, Andi Schnelli travelled to Macedonia last year for the first time. At no time were there concerns - the amiable, open nature of the Macedonians and their generous hospitality from the beginning gave him a good, relaxed feeling. Macedonia has much in common with Switzerland: A little inland, claiming its independence and being proud of its local communities. A country dominated by mountains and lakes, very natural, sparsely populated and with much rural charm. A country created around to travel on a bike saddle, with endless trails and rarely travelled roads, full of culture from the Roman, Tsar and Ottoman eras. With culinary delicacies, like cheese and sausages, and many beers, wine and local drinks. Macedonia convinced Andi with the youthful freshness of a young country.
