Cycle the historic 87km trail from the East Coast to the West Coast, from Opua next to the Bay of Islands and finishing at Horeke on the Hokianga harbour.
This is a smooth surface, generally flat and easy, Grade 1-2 cycle trail. We cycle along an old railway corridor, on road reserves, over bridges, around lakes and through historic towns. We’ll be driving up on Friday morning, doing the Haruru Falls walk, taking the ferry over to Russell for dinner at the Duke of Marlborough Hotel and staying at Paihia before starting the trail on Saturday morning. We stop in Kaikohe for the night, soak in the famous Ngawha Hot Springs, finish the trail on Sunday and drive home that evening.

The unique art deco city of Napier has over 200 km of flat, easy cycle trails in and around the region.
We’ll follow the easy Grade 1 to 2 cycle trails as they meander along beside rivers, through orchards and vineyards, along the coast, on boardwalks and through parks.
Our trails will take us east along the coastal trail towards Cape Kidnappers, north around the reclaimed airport area and west on the river trail out to Puketapu for a leisurely pub lunch. We’ll also be visiting the National Distillery for a gin tasting session. There’s so much to see and do in this area.
