Tuscany Cycling Tour

7 Days Easy-Moderate

This biking tour is a trip through time, from the Etruscan tombs to ancient Roman ruins, from Medieval hill towns to Renaissance basilicas. It also offers a great diversity of landscapes, from the vineyard covered hills of Chianti and Brunello to the barren geometrical cypress-crested mounds of the “Crete.” Everyday a new adventure, a new discovery.

On our cycling adventure we will enjoy the best of the peaceful and artistic Umbria along with the beauty of Tuscany. Your Tuscany cycling trip will be enhanced by barren hills crowned by ancient manor houses, winding country roads lined with cypress trees, grazing sheep, and luscious vineyards. Bike along cypress lined rolling hills peppered with poppies and sprinkled with sunflowers…visit enchanting medieval villages where you can find dozens of wine cellars with free tastings of the most incredible wines in the world…enjoy the ‘La Dolce Vita’ attitude of the Italian people, who take siestas for the full afternoon where everything slows down and life becomes very simple and exquisitely relaxed.

Here the food is unbelievable – from the gourmet espresso and Italian pastries before you bike, the creamy gelatos enjoyed mid-day or the rich ragus and pasta accompanied by delightful chianti wine at the end of the day. And what better way to work up an appetite for all those gastronomic delights than by taking a leisurely ride through some of the most gorgeous countryside you’ll find anywhere? Fantastico!

Cycling in Umbria reaches new levels as you experience this mystical land touched with soft colors and a sweet spirit. Bike through groves of silvery-green olive trees and along powdery shades of earth woven into a patchwork landscape. Umbria is the birth place of three major monastic orders: the Franciscans, the Clarisse, and the Benedictines. What better way to feel the peaceful and serene spirit of Umbria than cycling – and getting in touch with your own spirit.

Cut from major communication routes for centuries, Umbria has kept its traditions of pottery and weaving. The pottery is colourful and elaborately painted using techniques and patterns developed back to 800BC. Find these treasures and more in charming villages with cobbled alleys. Places where few tourists explore.Biking (40-50 kms/day) is enhanced by wonderful side trips to towns steeped in religious history including the most famous, Assisi, home to Saint Francis. See the artists who make the famous Deruta pottery and weave lace, both crafts which have held onto techniques that are centuries old. You will enjoy time in Sienna, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its famous Piazza del Campo and the ornate Cathedral of Sienna, a wonderful example of Romanesque architecture. We’ll cycle through gorgeous vineyards and end the day with a glass of the region’s unique wine.
