Lake Hume Zoom

1 Days Moderate 33 Km

The Riding High Lake Hume Zoom is a leisurely ride around the spectacular Lake Hume, east of Albury Wodonga. Lake Hume is a man-made lake built from 1919 to 1936 and holds approximately 5 times the volume of Sydney Harbour.

The ride begins overlooking the site of Old Tallangatta, the town that was moved to accommodate the extension of the lake during the 1950s. From here the trail takes you to Tallangatta, the perfect spot for a coffee break. Following this it is back on the trail to ride along the picturesque shoreline of this huge body of water.

At Sandy Creek Inlet the trail ventures across the water thanks to the recently reconstructed bridge developed specifically for cycling enthusiasts.

The ride then meanders along the shore of the lake through Huon, Ludlows Reserve and then on to Ebden, where you’ll enjoy a catered lunch while taking in the spectacular vista of Lake Hume.

Following lunch it is back on the bikes for the short 3km ride to Bonegilla Migrant Experience. The Bonegilla Migrant Centre was a temporary home for 320,000 migrants from more than 30 countries between 1947 and 1971. A guided tour of Bonegilla provides a wonderful insight into the significant role this place played in the lives of literally thousands of migrants to Australia.

Following the guided tour it’s back on the Riding High bus for the 40-minute drive to Yakandandah, one of Victoria’s most perfectly preserved historic towns. Here you will have some time to wander the streets and do a spot of shopping before boarding the bus for the return trip to your place of accommodation.
