Way of the Roses 3 Day Cycling Tour

3 Days Mod-Advanced 170 MLS

The Way of the Roses Tour takes place in two of the most historic counties in England, Lancashire and Yorkshire. These two counties, which at certain points through history had been at war with each other, contain dramatic and inspiring lanscape surrounding the famous cities of York and Lancaster, and hidden jewels of towns and villages waiting to be discovered.

In Lancashire, just east of Lancaster, you will find The Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) where big sky meets sweeping expanses of meadowland and dotted with charming farms and villages, all interwoven by traditional dry-stone walls. In Morecambe Bay, you have the historic villages of Arnside and Silverdale, designated AONB thanks to their rich diversity of habitats, including deciduous woodland, limestone grasslands and coastal marshes, all enclosed by low limestone hills that provide a home for a rich array of wildlife.

Moving east into Yorkshire you find yourself in the world famous Yorkshire Dales. These valleys offer some of the finest limestone scenery in England including crags and an underground maze of caves, it's also a place of traditional stone built villages and farming landscapes. One of these valleys which we pass through is Nidderdale, an area designated its own AONB. Wild gritstone landscape in the west, highlighted by The Brimham Rocks, flows into much softer rolling landscape in the east towards the magnificent city of York. All are packed full of picturesque villages, beautiful reservoirs as well as being rich in wildlife.

In East Riding of Yorkshire you find the low hills of the Yorkshire wolds, a place of low rolling chalk hills, that run from a few miles after York to the splendid Yorkshire coast, the most northerly chalk cliffs in Britain.
