River Eden Source to Sea

Go with the flow from the Yorkshire Dales to the Solway Firth

2 Days Moderate 76 MLSAVG 38 MLS

The River Eden Source to Sea cycle route between Garsdale and the Solway Firth near Carlisle is an ideal way to explore the length of the beautiful Eden Valley and makes for a perfect short cycling holiday.

Flowing from its source at 360 metres above sea level on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the river Eden weaves its course northwards for over 80 miles through a variety of Cumbrian landscapes before reaching the sea at the Solway Firth.

The Source to Sea cycle ride starts high on the watershed between the Rivers Ure and Eden, passing through the market towns of Kirkby Stephen and Appleby, and countless idyllic villages including Dufton, Langwathby, Armathwaite and Wetheral en route to the Irish Sea. The route hugs the river bank as the Eden flows through the historic border city of Carlisle just a few miles from the finish.
