Ride on the narrow dirt single trails that have been connecting villages and villagers for generations. With most of the single track sections ranging from undulating to downhill, your face will be sore from smiling as you traverse down the side of some of Hoang Su Phi's most picturesque rice-terraced mountainsides. For this ride we have reserved most of the serious climbing for the sealed roads, allowing you to get in the rhythm and recover for the next fun single track descent to come. With daily distances ranging from 20-30km there will be plenty of time to enjoy time off the bike after the day's ride, and stop along the way for photos or just to take in the scenery. Our tour is not for the type of rider who wants to speed through a full day of cycling and do nothing but ride-sleep-eat. Our tour is for riders who want the opportunity to meet the locals, have time to stop for photos and to 'smell the roses', all while enjoying a ride along dirt trails.The tour will include one timed stage on Day 3 (7km Individual Time Trial) with prizes offered to the top 3 place betters.

Hanoi to Luang Prabang Mountain Bike Tour is an adventurous, moving on tour through the mountainous north-west provinces of Vietnam and Laos. Luggage transfer and vehicle support will be provided. The tour is suitable for fit, experienced cycling enthusiasts.

Vietnam’s far North West is undoubtedly the best place to cycle in the country as the roads see virtually no tourists and avoid Vietnam’s notorious highways. It wasn’t until the late 1990’s that travel restrictions were lifted.
Starting in Hanoi, we;ll pass through stunning landscapes, amazing karst rock formations, stilted houses with thatched roofs, mountains nestled between limestone outcrops and the highest concentration of hill-tribe people in the country. We’ll cross into a remote area of Laos via the newly opened border crossing at Tay Trang.

From the small market town of Muang Khua, we’ll take a slow boat down the beautiful Nam Ou river before cycling on to World Heritage Luang Prabang, with its beautiful temples and colourful night market. Our route south to Vientiane, the sleepy capital of Laos, is on virtually traffic-free roads. Great cycling and some of the friendliest people in Asia.

The opening in 2007 of the Tay Trang border crossing between Vietnam and Laos has made this exciting tour possible. This is an adventurous, moving on tour through the mountainous north west provinces.

We enter Northern Laos at Tay Trang. The trip includes a spectacular journey by boat down the Nam Ou River, a day off the bikes in World Heritage town, Luang Prabang with its beautiful temples and colourful night market, and time to explore vibrant Hanoi and Vientiane.

The hilltribes of Northern Vietnam are now so iconic and have been featured photographically in so many instances, that you may feel already somewhat familiar with them, but the truth is that those tribes, still living in their traditional ways, exist only in the most remote areas of South East Asia, and Ha Giang Province, open only relatively recently to travellers, is without doubt one of the best places left to witness the culture of these people.
This unspoilt, sparsely populated region is home to a staggering variety of hilltribes, many of whom don’t even communicate in the national language and who live by their traditional, subsistence farming ways.

The riding is some of the most amazing in South East Asia. Every day offers a different terrain, gradient, vista and climate as we climb and descent the various altitudes of the Ha Giang Plateau. This is a ride to remember and if the memory of burning leg muscles aren’t enough to remember it by, then your amazing photographs almost certainly will be.
