French Way - Section 1

9 Days Moderate

On this cycling holiday you will travel along the first section of the Camino Frances / French Way by bike. The French Way is the best known internationally of the pilgrim routes of the Santiago de Compostela and also the most traditional. The route, which originates from the late 11th century, travels to the tomb of St. James the Great, across the north of the Iberian Peninsula. It will see you pass through the Basque Country, Navarra, La Rioja, Castilla y Leon and Galicia provinces of Spain. Cycling has become a hugely popular way to experience this unforgettable journey to Santiago de Compostela. This section of the French Way of the Camino de Santiago starts in Pamplona, which is world-famous for its annual bull run and travels to Leon. Along the way you will pass through the magnificent city of Burgos. The variety in the terrain and scenery make this section ideal for cyclists. You will pass from the foothills of the Pyrenees to the red earth of wine growing regions and from woodlands to sunflower covered hills. You will experience the beauty, culture and history of many cities, towns and villages along the way. Each region from the Basque Country to Castilla y Leon has its own distinct culture and you will also pass through the world famous wine growing region of La Rioja.
