The lifeblood of the ancient Angkorian Kingdom was the mighty Mekong River, the richest, most bio-diverse river in the world which flows from the Yunan-Tibet Plateau through China, Burma, Laos and Thailand to Cambodia where, during the monsoon season, it backs up the Tonle Sap river creating a massive floodplain and the largest lake in south East Asia. This lake is rich in fish, providing the protein needed to feed what was then the world's largest city, Angkor Thom.Starting from the capital, Phnom Penh, our route follows the Mekong's riverbank to the colonial-era town of Kratie, discovering river islands, villages, rice fields and fishing communities along the way, before proceeding to visit the ancient temples of Angkor, including the famous Angkor Wat, the world's largest Hindu Monument, located at the head of the massive Tonle Sap Lake.The mountain bike route will follow minor roads, dirt tracks and trails trough rural farmlands, rice fields and rubber plantations. You will visit local markets for a close encounter with rural Cambodian people, and will include a home stay on an island located in the middle of the river. There will also be a chance to encounter the rare and endangered freshwater dolphins that are residents of the Mekong River.Cycling distances will vary from around 80 to 150 km per day - depending on your speed and fitness as a support vehicle will accompany you throughout to provide refreshments, drinking water, and relief from pedalling when needed.

From your hotel transfer to West Gate of Preah Khan temple. Visit the temple. The bikes will wait at the East Gate. Ride from the East Gate of Preah Khan up to Ta Nei temple through the forest. Discover Tan Nei then ride on to Takeo and the West Gate of Ta Prom. Visit this temple and ride on to East entrance of Angkor Wat. Visit Angkor Wat or ride back to the hotel following the schedule.

This exploratory mountain bike ride takes you from the capital, Phnom Penh, through rural countryside, characterized by verdant rice paddies dotted with iconic sugar palm trees, to the Gulf of Thailand coast, then across the great Tonle Sap lake to the ancient historical sites of Angkor. Along the way you will experience the warmest of close contacts with local people who live in a world that time seems to have left behind by the world, and tread the powdery white sand of the country's best beaches. You can explore the charms of French colonial-era towns that are only now unmerging into the limelight with vibrant artistic communities, and make a boat trip across the extraordinary Tonle Sap Lake, South East Asia's largest inland body of water. Finally you can explore the wondrous historic monuments of the Angkor kingdom around Siem Reap, including several of the lesser visited temples... all by mountain bike.

Ride from Siem Reap to Angkor Wat, following countryside trail and then paved road of Small circuit. Stop and visit Angkor Wat. Ride on to Bayon. Lunch.From Bayon to Phnom Bakheng through Terraces of Elephants and Leper King, Death Gate and Victory Gate, Ta Prohm and Sra Srang. End of ride at Phnom Bakheng before sunset.
