The ultimate Greek island Odyssey

Description

The Greek islands are the ideal destination for the cycle tourist. With quiet roads, hills and beaches it offers the perfect combination of sun, sand and cycling. Evia is the second largest island in Greece, only 2 hours from Athens. As with much of rural Greece it is synonymous with Olive groves, secluded beaches and crystal waters.

The economic crisis in Greece saw a large number of grassroots movements springing up and a real interest in an alternative way of living. This has led a number of groups to form together, building their own homes, educating their own children and growing their own food. Many have coalesced in north Evia due to its natural beauty, pristine coast land and impressive biodiversity.

The riding will be at a very pleasant pace, with undulating coastline and short km days, allowing plenty of time off the bike to relax, connect and explore. Be it stretching out on the beach, trekking up a mountain or rejuvenating yourself at the natural springs.

We'll also have plenty of time at the eco communities, observing how many in Greece are responding to economic turmoil by seeing it as an opportunity to create community and livelihoods that are truly sustainable.
