You will enjoy exploring some of the more remote areas at a leisurely pace, experiencing the peaceful and authentic rural way of life that can still be found along the route. You will witness the centuries old traditions and sample local products and dishes in the pretty towns and villages that have relied on the river for many years for their livelihood and their security.

It is a trip of many parts as you cycle upstream in Portugal, through dramatically changing landscape, and then back down the opposite bank in Spain. The two countries have their obvious differences and the castles that you will see along the way are clear evidence of past conflicts. But it is also interesting to see how, more recently, they have thrived as close neighbours, with ferries running back and forth between the principal border towns on a daily basis.

The daily rides do incorporate the odd challenge but there is also a fair chunk of flat riding as you follow the twists and turns of the river. In any case the distances are such that you can take your time and embrace your surroundings, whilst building up a good appetite for dinner during your overnight stays.

Our action-packed cycling programme includes 5 guided tours along scenic cycling routes.

Based in a quality 4 star hotel on the main beach in Albufeira, there will be plenty of time to recover from your day’s cycling, as the hotel features an outdoor pool, gym, wellness and spa facilities, including hydro massage and Turkish bath.

Routes can be altered to suit different groups, varying pace, distance and climbs according to ability.

It will be a trip full of contrasts as you make your way from the historic town of Silves, down towards the dramatic West Coast and back to the fresh air and mountains of Monchique. Cycling mainly on quiet tarmac roads and occasionally dirt tracks, there will be plenty of opportunities to linger at one of the main roadside cafés, where you can mix with the locals and sample some of their fabulous fresh products.

From the luxury and glamour that is Quinta do Lago to the salt flats and the local charm of the Praia de Faro. This is a fantastic healthy way to spend a morning. We will cycle at a pace to suit you, mainly along quiet roads and dirt tracks, and we have bikes and helmets available. All you need to do is turn up and pedal.

This tour is appropriate for novice/intermediate riders. It is also ideal for families as it is mostly on traffic-calmed roads and dirt tracks. It lasts for approximately 3 to 4 hours.

This self-guided tour biking holiday introduces you to what we think are some of the best bits of the Algarve. With a rest day roughly halfway through each week, it’s designed to be a gentle and relaxing trip, with daily opportunities to linger longer or venture ‘off-piste’ to explore this spectacularly beautiful region.

Our bespoke route is designed to show you the best that the Algarve Coast has to offer. Each day brings a new experience and, as a self-guided holiday, you are your own boss, so you can go at your pace and take diversions to see interesting places whenever you like.

Cycling an average of 33km a day gives you plenty of time to explore this beautiful region as you make your way from the border of Spain to one of the Algarve’s most historic towns. Your route takes you mainly on quiet tarmac roads and occasionally dirt tracks, weaving through an array of interesting towns and villages, where you can soak up the calming atmosphere of the Eastern Algarve.

The N2 road that runs from Faro in the South all the way to Chaves in the North of Portugal, some 738.5 kms in total, is being marketed as Portugal’s “Route 66”. The N2 is over 70 years old and it is the longest continuous road in Portugal crossing 4 mountain ranges, 11 rivers and 29 municipalities, with tremendous variety in scenery & landscapes along the way. The road doesn’t have the same economic importance that it once had and has now been largely superseded by the nation’s motorway network, making the now quieter old road particularly interesting for tourism purposes and this of course includes long distance cycle tourism.

This trip is ideal for small groups of 4 plus. We provide a support vehicle and luggage transfer, leaving you to make the most of the cycling.
