Laos by Bike

14 Days Moderate

For an in-depth, active adventure in Laos this trip is a must! Cycling is one of the best ways to experience the diverse scenery of Southeast Asia, and this journey from Luang Prabang in the north to Pakse in the south is one of the best ways to see the sights of Laos. From charming river cities and colourful markets to isolated villages and ancient archaeological sites; golden temples and saffron-robed monks; tranquil lakes and sleepy riverine islands to wartime history and grand colonial architecture: Laos has a unique mix of stunning natural beauty, rich culture and a relaxing, gentle pace that makes it a consistent favourite among travelers. Our comfortable geared bikes, support crew and steady pace mean that you’ll be free to enjoy the scenery along the way, with our backup vehicle available to give tired riders a break at any time. Our itinerary takes us into the heart of this beautiful and fascinating country, taking in the must-see gems but also stepping off the well-worn path to gain a deeper appreciation of Laos’s people, history and culture. We begin in the enchanting World Heritage Listed city of Luang Prabang, where we’ll savour its temples and shrines, caves and waterfalls, colourful markets, fragrant cuisine and gentle pace on the banks of the Mekong River. From here we begin our journey southward to the capital of Vientiane, cycling through stunning landscapes of forested mountains, lush valleys and terraced rice paddies, along riverbanks and through villages. We continue heading south to Pakse and the fertile Bolaven Plateau, where we’ll stop to visit indigenous villages and the twin waterfalls of Tad Fan. From here we continue our cycle to the former royal capital of Champasak, our base for exploring the World Heritage Listed ancient Khmer ruins of Wat Phu. We wrap up our adventure with a stay on Dong Khong Island, the largest of the 4,000 Islands, Southern Laos’ stunning riverine archipelago. If you’re looking for a cycle adventure that takes in the must-see natural and cultural highlights of Laos, this is it!
