Rome Ghosts and Talking Statues

Evening bike tour

4 Hours Easy 15 Km

Beside the most important attractions, in this tour you will discover the folkloristic and “magic” side of Rome, made of legends, folk tales and superstitions. For this reason there are many rumors about ghosts and spirits of the ones who died in the many bloody deeds that were so frequent in Roman history.
If we listen to the story-telling of the oldest and most superstitious inhabitants, we can find out that many of these ghosts still haunt the places where they lived or died.

Let’s discover the secrets of Castel Sant’Angelo, where Beatrice Cenci was beheaded: according to the legend, her ghost still roams upon its bridge.
You will proceed to Piazza del Popolo, where once was a deconsecrated cemetery.
Beware the ghost of Olimpia Pamphili, that uses to run across Piazza Navona with her chariot towed by black horses! Let yourself charm by the unreal atmosphere of Piazza di Spagna, haunted by the ghost of the English poet John Keats, or by the ghost of Emperor Nero and the ones of the wild beasts in the Coliseum…
Just like the countless legends of Rome’s ghosts, folk-tales and stories hung upon the so-called “talking statues” have many things to tell. In the past several statues situated in the alleys of the Eternal City where used to hang satirical poems attacking the power of popes and emperors. For this reason, they were called “talking statues”, as they often gave origin to distant dialogues, the “pasquinate”. Pasquino is the most famous talking statue in Rome, but in this tour you will discover many others of them!
