Back to Basilicata in the Bradano valley, you will cycle rolling hills through an explosion of colours, olive groves and ancient farmhouses.

Leaving from the Alta Murgia plateau, you will visit Trani, with its port and enchanting cathedral,Castel del Monte that boasts a mysterious octagonal-shaped medieval castle, Venosa, an ancient Roman city, and Melfi. After passing through the Vulture vineyards, you will head south, cycling along roads surrounded by golden hills and the final leg of the tour is in Matera with its Sassi.

Everyday you will discover local art treasures and sample the cuisine and products of these lands. You will often have the impression of travelling back in time.

After the first 2 days in the Murgia Plateau, you will reach a really unbeaten but perfect land for cyclists: no traffic and terrific landscapes. You will cross valleys, climb the Apennines, and reach the Pollino National Park, the largest natural area in Italy, ending in Maratea, where there is a breathtaking view of the Tyrrhenian Coast.

After crossing the Murgia plateau, you will stay in the Itria valley, characterized by olive grooves and typical “trulli”, rural conical roof houses made with drystone techniques. Around Ostuni, the “white town” lots of Masserie, small typical local stone fortresses.

Salento is the southern region of Puglia, the Heel of Italy’s Boot. Here the Ionian Coast, before Gallipoli, is characterized of sandy beaches, dunes and protected natural reserves.

The Adriatic Coast, around Otranto, is made of cliffs and small bays.

The cities and inland hamlets, expressions of the unique Lecce Baroque, Messapi and Salento Grecìa are not to be missed.

The journey ends in the Itria Valley, among the trulli of Alberobello and Ostuni, the “white town”.

The tour unwinds largely on secondary roads with little traffic. Mainly on asphalt that is suitable for road bikes. The area is predominantly hilly with short, easy climbs near some of the towns.
