The Tsingy Road

15 Days Moderate 1070 KmAVG 107 Km

The cyclists will gather in the early morning light of Tana, the nation’s capital and head north out of town through the city’s 12 sacred hills. The first 3 days will take them through Madagascar’s highlands, the beautiful Ankazobe forest and then a vast empty plateau. Descending into the lowlands, riders will spin towards the Parc National d’Ankarafantsika. This park represents the last strand of dry western deciduous forest in the country and, with its 8 species of lemur, 70 species of reptiles and 130 species of birds, will give the cyclists their first taste of Madagascar’s magnificent natural beauty. Another couple days ride takes the cyclists through Mahajanga, home to a 700 year old Baobab tree, and then on to a rest day at Antsanita Beach.

After a day relaxing in the sun or perhaps exploring the nearby Cirque Rouge, one of the country’s most famous sights, the cyclists will hop aboard a speedboat which will take them out into the Mozambique Channel and on into the bustling town of Antsohihy. From there it is a 2 day pedal through a region famous for cocoa and spice plantations. Arriving in Ankify Harbour, riders take a boat out to explore Nosy Be, a beautiful island paradise, go diving amongst the area’s plentiful shipwrecks and reefs or snorkel with endangered sea turtles on Nosy Tanikely. Well rested after 2 rest days, the cyclists head back to the mainland and spin north to Ankarana National Park and another rest day. Here they can look for crowned lemurs and Tsingy (surreal conical, limestone formations) landscapes. The last day takes the riders past the rust-coloured Tsingy Rouges and into the Antsiranana, perched on one of the world’s most beautiful bays, and the end point for this incredible section.
