Across the Andes

The riders will certainly enjoy the 2 day ride from Salta to the next rest day in Cafayate along historic route #68 through the Valles Calchaquies.

20 Days Moderate-Advanced 2100 Km

They will also relish the fact that the area around Cafayate is renown for its wine, especially the delicious Argentinian cultivar – Torrontes. Four more days cycling Ruta 40 will bring the expedition to another rest day in Chilecito, an agricultural town, beautifully situated amongst snow-capped peaks. Wineries and abandoned mines are worth a visit here.

From Chilecito we’ll continue to follow Ruta 40 south until turning west and heading up over the Andes and into Chile, the next country on this epic adventure. The participants will push themselves and their bikes up to the Paso del Agua Negro, at 4779m the highest point on our tour, before crossing the border and speeding down 4700m to the Pacific seaside town of La Serena and a rest day featuring fresh seafood, 29 churches and much more. Then the cyclists will hug the coastline for 6 days, enjoying Pisco Sours, before arriving in the metropolis of Santiago where they can explore its 19th century neo-classical architecture and winding side streets, dotted with art deco, neo-gothic and other styles
