Vietnam: Cycle the Mekong Delta

8 Days

The Mekong Delta is a beautiful, subtropical and lush landscape, full of palm and fruit trees as well as thousands of paddy fields. The area is crisscrossed with the tributaries of the mighty Mekong River, and the Delta region is known as the ‘Bread Basket’ of Vietnam. The Delta’s fertile soil makes it an ideal area for the cultivation of rice.

The nine main tributaries of the Mekong are home to many islands which are renowned for growing fruits, many of which you will not have heard of or ever seen before.

The Mekong Delta is also a haven for wildlife and spotting a rare species is usually the highlight of any visit to Vietnam. As you take an amazing cycle tour through this unique region you will get to see the real Mekong Delta that is often missed by many visitors.

The weather conditions are usually consistent every year and are comprised of two major seasons, the dry and the wet season. The dry season begins in early November and lasts until the end of April or the beginning of May, the temperature and humidity levels usually escalate from February onwards. Whilst the damp season starts in May and typically lasts until November. Rainfall occurs throughout the wet season, with the highest rainfall occuring between June and August.

The language is Vietnamese, and it is the sole official and national language of Vietnam. Some locals will speak enough English for simple conversations, but many will not.

The cycling conditions are predominantly narrow, flat, country roads and lanes with little traffic. Occasional stretches on busier roads.
