Description

Explore England's Lake District National Park, the wide open spaces of the North Pennines and Hadrian's Wall UNESCO World Heritage Site by bike. First you cycle south west through the Lake District National Park to the beautifully preserved town of Cockermouth, where you join the Sea to Sea Cycle Route west to Keswick. Lying between Derwentwater and Skiddaw Keswick offers plenty to keep you busy including a delightful loop around Derwentwater. Deep still lakes, perfectly maintained dry stone walls, pretty Lakeland cottages, rugged fells and perfectly formed tea rooms bring every Lake District cliché to life. Your route continues east through Penrith and then over the heather-covered moors of the North Pennines to Alston, almost untouched since the 17th century and a favourite for period film makers. From Alston you can take a shorter option to Haltwhistle or a more challenging route over the Pennines to Hexham in Hadrian's Wall Country. The final day sees you following the best preserved sections of Hadrian's Wall back to Carlisle.
